In five previous visits to Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, Man City have scored precisely zero goals and lost every single time. Clearly, Ange Postecoglou's men have more than a puncher's chance against the reigning FA Cup holders on Friday.

This has been an eventful campaign for Spurs, who were the inexplicable early pace-setters in the Premier League before injuries exacerbated a drastic drop in form. Though fans are extremely pleased with what Postecoglou has brought to the table, unless you subscribe to the notion of Tottenham as Premier League title contenders, the FA Cup represents their last hope of winning silverware this season.

Pep Guardiola has lifted either the FA Cup, League Cup or both in five of the past six years, so after suffering a shock early exit in the Carabao, Man City won't be taking anything for granted in north London. Erling Haaland may be out, but the long-awaited return of Kevin de Bruyne has electrified the club, and they'll surely break their Tottenham Hotspur Stadium duck on Friday.

Both should be rested and recharged after nearly a fortnight off due to the winter break, while for Spurs, this competition surely represents their best chance to end a long wait for silverware - and in Ange Postecoglou's debut season at the club, no less.

They'll have to get past a Man City side in ominous form to keep their Wembley dreams alive, and will need to do so without a host of key players, such as Heung-min Son, Yves Bissouma, James Maddison and Pape Sarr, due to injuries and international duty.

The defending champions are likely to be without the recovering Erling Haaland again, but have won three on the bounce without him since returning from the FIFA Club World Cup, while the Spurs game could see Kevin De Bruyne make his first start since limping off on the opening day of the season.

Ange Postecoglou's side were last in action in the 2-2 league draw against Manchester United on January 14, after they had overcome Burnley in the third round of the cup competition.

Pep Guardiola's men have been training in the Middle East following a 3-2 win over Newcastle United in the Premier League on January 13. The Cityzens defeated Huddersfield Town in the third round of the FA Cup.

Despite a good break, the likes of Dane Scarlett, Alfie Whiteman, Alejo Veliz, Ben Davies and Giovani Lo Celso are yet to recover from their respective knocks.

James Maddison and Manor Solomon remain doubts, but Ryan Sessegnon and Dejan Kulusevski could make the squad after missing the United game. Son Heung-min is on international duty with South Korea at the Asian Cup, while Pape Sarr (Senegal) and Yves Bussouma (Mali) partake at the AFCON.

Erling Haaland has resumed training after a bone stress injury that kept him out of action since the game against Aston Villa on December 6. However, it is unlikely that Guardiola will risk him yet, so Julian Alvarez should continue up front.

In goal, too, Stefan Ortega continuing in place of Ederson after the latter suffered a collision in the Newcastle win. The Spanish manager is expected to exercise a cautious approach with John Stones and Manuel Akanji as well. Meanwhile, Kalvin Phillips is set to join West Ham on a loan deal.

It's arguably the standout tie of the FA Cup's fourth round, and if recent history tells us anything about fixtures between these two sides, you can bet your top dollar that Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester City will be giving us plenty of fireworks when they contend for a place in the last 16 on Friday, January 26.

Their six-goal thriller in the Premier League earlier this season gives some indication as to how games involving the pair usually go, with Spurs coming from behind on three separate occasions to secure a 3-3 draw - Dejan Kulusevski's 90th minute strike being the third and final equaliser which rescued a point at the Etihad Stadium.

City's last FA Cup-related trip to the capital was a memorable one for Pep Guardiola's side, taking the lead just 13 seconds into the 2023 decider against bitter rivals Manchester United at Wembley. Ilkay Gundogan's volley almost straight from kick-off broke all kinds of records, and he slotted home another goal early in the second half to win it.

That 2-1 victory sealed City's seventh FA Cup title and came hot on the heels of their Premier League victory just a few days earlier, before completing an historic treble with victory over Inter in the Champions League final.

This season has seen new challenges thrown at the champions though - particularly in the league - and Spurs will know from their 3-3 draw in December that if they can match City across the park, they're well within a shout of dumping the FA Cup holders out in the fourth round.

Much like their match against City at the Etihad Stadium, Spurs also came from behind twice against Manchester United to come away from Old Trafford with a 2-2 draw. Richarlison and recent loan singing Timo Werner both got on the scoresheet for Ange Postecoglu's side, and they'll likely be joined in the front three by Brennan Johnson.

The goals flew in from all angles as Manchester City thumped Huddersfield 5-0 in the third round, with Phil Foden getting a brace and fellow forwards Julian Alvarez and Jeremy Doku also finding the back of the net. All three are expected to start alongside Bernardo Silva in City's front four.

The game will come too early for the injured Erling Haaland, but with Alvarez and Oscar Bobb - the match-winner at Newcastle in the Premier League last time out - leading the line in his stead, and Kevin de Bruyne making a goalscoring return from injury in the same game, City are well resourced in attacking firepower at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Spurs' never-say-die attitude won them a point at the Etihad earlier in the season and their recent 2-2 draw at Old Trafford shows that spirit is still the beating heart of this team, while home advantage in this match could well give them the edge.

However, City have recovered from a pre-Christmas slump to go five games unbeaten in the league, four of which have been victories. Factoring in their performances across these games, and coming off the back of a FIFA World Club Cup victory in Saudi Arabia, the Cityzens are well placed to continue their FA Cup title defence and notch a first-ever win at Spurs' new stadium in this competition.

Pep Guardiola’s side cantered into the fourth round after a 5-0 win against Huddersfield Town as City made it nine games unbeaten in all competitions.

Spurs, meanwhile, reached this stage in the competition after a hard-fought 1-0 win against Burnley and will look to keep alive faint hopes of winning cup silverware in Ange Postecoglou’s maiden season.

Tottenham, however, do have an enviable recent record against City having lost just one of their last five encounters against the reigning Premier League champions.

Spurs are still without Son Heung-Min, Yves Bissouma and Pape Sarr who are away at the Africa Cup of Nations and Asian Cup respectively. Alejo Veliz, Giovani Lo Celso, Ben Davies and Manor Solomon remain long-term absentees but Postecoglou will hope to be able to call on the services of James Maddison for the first time since the Englishman injured his ankle in November.

City, meanwhile, will hope to have Erling Haaland available for selection after his spell on the sidelines with a foot injury. John Stones and Manuel Akanji could well return in central defence, while a late fitness call will also be made on Ederson after he picked up a knock in the game against Newcastle.

Both teams have had almost two weeks off thanks to the winter break and renew an intriguing rivalry with a place in the fifth round up for grabs.

Despite dominating English football for the best part of a decade, City's bogey team appears to be Spurs as on every visit to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium so far they have failed to win a single point or score a single goal.

Friday's game could be the turning point, though, with Spurs missing captain Heung-min Son due to Asian Cup duties and City unable to welcome Erling Haaland back after over a month out through injury.

Tottenham are without Son, who is with South Korea in Doha, but do have James Maddison available after almost three months out. Giovani Lo Celso will miss the game. January signing Radu Dragusin could start, though fellow centre-backs Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero are first-choice.

Richarlison will continue through the middle, supported by Maddison, while Dejan Kulusevski - who has a fine scoring record against City - is fit again after illness.

Spurs remain without Ryan Sessegnon, Alejo Veliz and Manor Solomon, plus midfielders Yves Bissouma and Pape Matar Sarr, who are both away at the Africa Cup of Nations.

City once again don't have Haaland available while Kevin De Bruyne insists he is still not match fit after a number of months on the sidelines, but could start the game.

Spurs will take heart from such an impressive home record against Manchester City, but the absence of Son will make this test far harder even with the return of Maddison.

City head into the game in good shape despite the continued absence of Haaland, with De Bruyne and Stones in contention to start. Who knows what will happen under the Friday night lights, but you feel the holders have the edge.
